Help with Hearing the Streams |
When you load the player for the first time you will see a message from Abacast informing you that the Abacast software is about to be downloaded and that you need to Click Yes on the security dialogue window when it appears. The software includes no spyware. If for any reason this does not work properly you can install the software by clicking here. When the software is properly installed you will see a small Abacast icon appears in the system tray at the bottom right of your screen. This will disappear soon after you close the player and reappear whenever you reopen it.
The stream will not play if you are using a version of Winamp earlier than 5. If you have an older version please use the link at the foot of this page to download the latest version. The free version will do the job. Also the stream will not play if you have the mp3pro plug-in installed in Winamp. You need to either uninstall it or go to preferences and select input plugins and highlight the Nullsoft MPEG decoder and not the mp3pro decoder.
Some listeners have had problems when using Winamp versions 5.2 or 5.21. Winamp crashes as soon as it opens. If you are experiencing this we suggest that you uninstall it and delete the entire contents of the winamp directory (C:\Program Files\Winamp) including the plugin directory. Then download the stable version 5.13 from here, and install that. You can switch off the option to check that you are using the latest version.

Mac users do not download the Abacast software, instead you are connected directly to the server. Currently the only player for OS X which will play accPlus is the VLC Player which you can download at the foot of this page. You will then need to make the VLC Player the default application to play this type of stream. Here's how to do it:
1. Download and Install the VLC Player.
2. Open the accPlus stream by clicking the Abacast/ VLC link on our Listen page.
3. If iTunes opens then close it again and find the "radiocaroline-sc-32.pls"
file left on your desktop. Select it and do a Get Info (Command-I).
4. Change the "Open with:" selection from iTunes to VLC and then click the "Change
All" button immediately below.
5. Open the stream again from the Listen page and it should now play in the
VLC Player - enjoy.

Whichever player you use there will be times when the stream is interrupted by network congestion. If you have more than one ISP you could try another one as sometimes the congestion is within the ISP's own network. If the stream is being interrupted to the extent that the player is losing the connection then there is a tip you can use with Winamp and other players with similar features. Set the options Repeat and Shuffle (with a tick) and the player will automatically reconnect when the service is lost through a timeout or ISP break. Further user intervention is then not normally needed. Thanks to Andy Rayment for that.
The BT Voyager Digital Media Player and other devices use Windows Media Player technology to play internet streams. In order to play the Caroline stream on one of these devices you will need the Windows Media Stream that does not use Abacast. The address (URL) of this stream is http://www.lazygit.org/listen.asx and you should add it to the player as directed in the instructions (To add from a URL)
