Radio Caroline is streamed by Live365. Live365 have their own player, to listen via this click here. Alternatively you can visit the Live365 site and elect to use a different player such as Winamp.
For those with a broadband connection, a higher quality steam is available. This can be heard using Winamp by clicking here or Windows Media Player by clicking here.
The Pop-up player using RealPlayer automatically selects either the 24 kbps stream or the 64 kbps stream depending on the settings that you have in RealPlayer. Usually these are set when you install the software. If the setting is single ISDN or less the player connects to the 24 kbps stream, above and it connects to the 64 kbps stream. If you have recently upgraded to broadband you may still be connecting to the 24 kbps stream because the settings in RealPlayer have not been updated. This can be solved by opening RealPlayer selecting "Tools" from the menu and then "Preferences". Another Window opens and you will see a category on the left called "Connection. Choose this and then select the appropriate setting for your connection. There is an option to Let RealPlayer test your connection, but this is unreliable. You can also use this method to always select the lower speed stream even if you have a broadband connection. Just set the connection to 56.6 kbps modem. This might be useful if you listen at work and do not want to use too much bandwidth.
Whichever player you use there will be times when the stream is interrupted by network congestion. If you have more than one ISP you could try another one as sometimes the congestion is within the ISP's own network. If the stream is being interrupted to the extent that the player is loosing the connection then there is a tip you can use with Winamp and other players with similar features. Set the options Repeat and Shuffle (with a tick) and the player will automatically reconnect when the service is lost through a timeout or ISP break. Further user intervention is then not normally needed. My thanks to Andy Rayment for that.
